The Importance of First Impressions. Like It or Not - You're Being Judged.

We've all been there, taken a glance at someone or something and within a split second prejudged and categorized our subjects based merely on appearance. Whether or not this seems fair, you are always being judged on how you look, how you dress, your body language, and even on how you do your job.

The reasoning behind this connects the three parts of our brain that have been used for survival since our primitive days. Within milliseconds we assess our subjects or situations with sex, food, survival, perceived association, fear, memories, personal emotions, imagination, culture, and more. These split seconds can be the difference between life and death, to the opening and closing of doors with social opportunities.

When I worked as a fashion designer for over 15 years, I saw first hand on how improving someone's appearance added confidence internally and changed other peoples perceptions externally, leading to impressive introductions. As we know, your first impression is not the only determining factor for your path to success and meeting incredible people; however, it is an extremely vital part of how we interact as humans building social circles.
